You didnt make it for your 4am milking yesterday morning, which is very odd because I can count on one hand the amount of times you have not shown up in the last 20years. Then at 7:30 our hearts were broken when we found out why.
You have worked for 3 generations on this farm. My dad, me and working with Chelsea and Matt most recently. You were always there to chip in when we had troubles and never bitched, well sometimes you did, but dont we all!
My children grew up with you. You and Brenda took Chelsea to the Wilder farm civil war reinactment and worked on machinery go karts and 4 wheelers with Matt. You were even starting to play with the 4th generation, my grandkids, when they came around.
Hopefully your sitting in a nice comfortable lawn chair sharing a beer with my brother filling him in on what hes missed the last 13 years. You were more than an employee, you were family and there is a big void here at Metcalf Farms that will never be filled.
RIP my friend your shift is over. Relax now.
