Obituary of Warren Byron Mount

Warren Byron Mount, 98, of Fort Covington, NY., passed away Tuesday morning, July 10, 2018, at his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gordon Childs home in North Bangor, NY. He had been under their care and also Hospice of the North Country, Inc.

He was born on February 20, 1920, in Three Mile Bay, NY., the son of the late Claude W. and Anna Mugg Mount. He graduated from Brownville-Glen Park High School in 1937 and from Clarkson University in 1942, with a B.S. in chemical engineering.

Warren worked for ALCOA in Massena, NY., from 1942 until 1944. He served from 1945 until his Honorable Discharge in 1946 with the Army Engineer Corps, stationed in the Philippines.

On June 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Elizabeth Ellsworth at the First Presbyterian Church, in Fort Covington, NY. She predeceased him on April 27, 2012.

He returned to ALCOA and was employed there until 1950 in the Pittsburgh office. In 1950, Warren and Betty purchased the Ellsworth Homestead Dairy Farm and they operated it for more than fifty years.

He was a member of the Franklin County Cooperative Extension, Holstein Club, Westville Grange, Dairyman’s League, Farm Bureau, and the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District from 1961-84, part of which he served as chairman. He also served on the committee for 4H Camp Overlook for several years. He was also a member of the Westville Historical Society.

He was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Covington, and served on Session for many years. He also taught Religious Education classes.

Survivors include one son, Paul Mount of Altamonte Springs, FL., three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and Gordon Childs of North Bangor, NY., Patti Almond of Fort Covington, NY., and Jane and John Bartleson of Manassas, VA., nine grand children, thirteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Along with his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Robert and Spencer Mount, one son-in-law, Bryan Almond, and one grandson, Ryan David Childs.

Calling hours will be Friday from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at the Cooks Corners Wesleyan Church. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bentley McQuinn officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, in Fort Covington, NY., with full Military Services provided by the Fort Covington American Legion.

Donations may be made in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Covington, Cooks Corners Wesleyan Church or to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc.
