Obituary of Francis Martin Forkey

Francis M. Forkey, 92, of North Bangor, NY., passed away Saturday morning, March 4, 2017, at the U.V.M Health Network Alice Hyde Medical Center, in Malone, NY., with his loving family by his side. He had been a resident of The Alice Center in Malone, NY.
Born in Lackawanna, NY., April 10, 1924, he was the son of the late John and Melvina Forkey. He graduated from Brushton-Moira High School, in 1941.
In 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Betty Collins. She predeceased him in 1974. In 1975, he was united in marriage to the former Peggy A. Jarvis. She predeceased him on July 16, 2016.
Francis owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. After selling the farm, he was employed in the maintenance department, at the Franklin County Court House, in Malone, NY., for more than ten years. He retired in 1991.
He loved the great outdoors, whether he was farming, cutting wood, gardening or camping at Lake Meacham. He was a member of the Democratic National Committee.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters in law, Francis “Marty” and Marilyn Forkey of Orange Park, FL., Dennis and Sharlene Forkey of Canastota, NY., and Michael Forkey of Marion, NY., one stepson, James Myers and his wife Melissa of Brainardsville, NY., one daughter and son in law, Francine and Glen Pickering of Madrid, NY., one brother, Maurice Forkey of Ogdensburg, NY., twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his two wives, he was predeceased by two sons, John and Christopher Forkey, one brother, Samuel Forkey and five sisters, Olive Benware, Leona Martin, Pearl, Lorette and Bea.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, in North Bangor, NY., with the Rev. Raymond Moreau officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, in North Bangor, NY.,on Friday May 12,2017, at 1 p.m.
