Obituary of Renee L Durant
Renee L.Durant,70, of Bombay, NY., passed away unexpectedly December 1, 2018, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility, in Burlington, VT.
Born in Malone, NY., July 28, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Sally O'Dougherty Yando. She graduated from Franklin Academy, in Malone, NY
She was united in marriage to James D. Durant. He predeceased her on January 11, 2013.
She devoted her life to her family, her farm and her community. She was a 4H leader for forty years. She was the committee chairperson for the Franklin County Dairy Princess Program, a longtime member of the Franklin County Holstein Club, Franklin County Farm Bureau, and the Franklin County Fair Association, where she has been showing her cows since she was three years old. She operated the Farmers Kitchen at the Franklin County Fair for the past 18 years. She was a member of the Bombay Historical Society. Renee was the Founder and Director of the Bombay Food Pantry.
She and her husband owned and operated the Dur-Crest Holstein dairy farm in Bombay, NY., for 35 years. She started her career as the Program Coordinator for the Community Action Agency in Malone, NY. Renee managed the Summer Feeding Program for many years. Renee was also the Cafeteria Manager for the Salmon River Central School. She retired after 30 years of service. Renee showed her love and compassion for people by feeding those in her family, her friends, and especially those in need. She will be best remembered for her Christmas tradition of meat pies, pickles, and doughnuts. She never let anyone leave hungry.
Renee is survived by her children, Jamie Durant of Bombay, Aaron and Maddi Durant of Bombay, Trudy Durant and her life partner Tish Thompson of Belmont, Heather and Sam Benedict of Bombay, two sisters Judy Stowell and her companion Ron Martin of Bombay, Sue and Tim Clark of Vergennes, VT., seven grandchildren, Josh, Meggie, Dylan, Sarah, Jenelle, Fallon, and Arielle, and two great-grandchildren, Jace and Brylee. She also had several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her beloved dog Rufus also survives.
Calling hours will be Friday from 11 a.m. until 1p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral home in Fort Covington, NY. A funeral service will be held at 1p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Cora Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, in Bombay, NY.
