Obituary of Beverly J. Cappiello
Beverly J. Cappiello, 88, of Fort Covington, NY., passed away Saturday evening, May 4, 2019, at C.V.P.H., in Plattsburgh, NY., with her loving family by her bedside.
Born in Massena, NY., March 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Thelma Griggs Sharlow. She graduated from Fort Covington High School, in 1948.
Many years ago, Bev was employed by St. Mary’s Catholic School in Fort Covington, in the cafeteria. She later managed the Jayne and Lisa Restaurant in Fort Covington for several years. In 1978, she began her career with the United States Postal Service and retired in 2000, as Assistant Post Mistress.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a life member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was the first fire and rescue dispatcher in Fort Covington, NY., dispatching from her home. She was a member and past president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, flower gardening, bird watching, and cooking. She is well known for her delicious spaghetti and meatball dinners. Her most precious times were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
On November 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to Elton “Cappy” Cappiello at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington, NY., by the late Msgr. Edmund Dumas. He predeceased her on December 26, 2018.
Survivors include, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Wendy Cappiello of Malone, NY., and Andre and Loretta Cappiello of Morrisonville, NY., three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Fred Fritz of Fort Covington, NY., Jill and Rick Tremblay of Massena, NY., and Terri and Fred Brush of Massena, NY., extended family members, Lyndon Hutchins of Manitoba, Canada, Mark Peets of Fort Covington, NY., and Lyle Prairie of Pittsford, NY., ten grandchildren, Kendra Miller and her husband, Ryan, Nicholas Cappiello and his wife, Ashley, Christopher Fritz, Emily Fritz, Erinn Currier and her husband, Dustin, Erica Tremblay Rabideau and her husband, Zachary Rabideau, Justin Tremblay and his wife, Nickola, Juliana Brush, Andrew Brush and Gianna Cappiello, six great grandchildren, Isabella and Warren Miller, Harper and Miles Cappiello, Carter Currier, and Aurora Tremblay and a great grandson to be born in July, Dean Tremblay, three nephews, Winston Armstrong, Kim and Todd Bashaw, six nieces, Debbora Keeler, Martha Armstrong Ritchie, Airlie Green, Wendy Green Basel, Cyndi Hanley and Lisa Cartier. She will be sadly missed by her cat, Molly.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one sister and brother-in-law, Marylou and Napoleon Bashaw, and four brothers-in law and three sisters-in-law Bruce Cappiello, Olita and Fred Armstrong, Noreen and Paul Green and Dorothy and Richard Keeler.
Calling hours will be Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 10 until 11:30 a.m., at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home, in Fort Covington, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Noon, at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington, NY., with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the old St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Fort Covington, NY.
