Obituary of Joseph T. Leone

Joseph T. Leone, 86, of Malone, NY., passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, while under the loving care of his wife, Marian and Hospice of the North Country, Inc. Born in Brooklyn, NY., October 26, 1933, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Doris Englander Leone. He attended schools in Brooklyn. Joe served in the United States Army during the Korean War and received the Bronze Star. He was Honorably Discharged in 1953. He moved to Massena, NY., in 1957 and worked on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. In 1958, he founded the American Siding Company in Malone, NY., and operated it until his retirement in 1992. From 1982 until 1986, he owned and operated Leone’s Travel Bureau in Malone. He was a communicant of St. Andre Bessette Parish and worshiped at St. Joseph’s Church, in Malone for many years. He was a member of the Malone American Legion, Post 219. He became an avid golfer when he was in his seventies. He enjoyed travel and reading. On January 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to the former Marian Murtagh, at St. Joseph’s Church, in Malone, NY. She survives. Along with his wife, Marian, he is survived by one sister, Mary Mackey of Brooklyn, NY., two sisters-in-law, Vincenza Leone of Massena, NY., and Sue Murtagh Hulbert of Rochester, NY., and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Harry and Ben Leone and two sisters, Roseann Silverberg and Doris Leone. There are no calling hours. A Graveside Service and burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, on the Child Road, in Malone, NY., on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at 1 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. in Malone, NY., or to the charity of one’s choice.
