I worked with Robert at a school out here in Arizona, where we became friends. We stayed in contact for the last 4 years until this summer, when I didn't hear from him. I just learned of his passing last night, and was saddened to the core to read about it.
I loved that young man; I loved his passion, his sincerity; his honesty and his delightful sense of humor. I thought of him yesterday and texted him...not knowing why he didn't reply.
The kids at the middle school where Robert worked will be heartbroken at losing their biggest champion; their biggest cheerleader. He loved the kids. All of them. The ones who were a lot to handle and were the most difficult were the ones Robert desperately wanted to help. He had saint like qualities. I wish the school's principal would have hired him long ago and made him feel like he was appreciated and needed. They left him as a substitute, and he could only see his dream of working there from the outside looking in. That, in and of itself is heartbreaking. He deserved a position there as he was brilliant and wanted to make for a better world. He sacrificed any other position he could have taken to help in his hometown. Maybe, the school board will see the mistake they made by not noticing and giving Robert the job and dignity he so richly deserved.
I will miss him greatly, and his death has left an emptiness in my heart,

Itβs with great sadness that we said farewell to Robert. He was intelligent, generous, and considerate. I will remember the many conversations in my office and he talking about his many dreams. Life cut too short. Fly away Robert.

Here is Rob teaching his Literacy Professional Development Workshop to a group of teachers at St. Joseph's Elementary School. It was a pleasure to know Rob, and his passion for teaching was contagious. He will be missed by us, by his colleagues, and most of all by his students. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Robert was often at the St Josephβs Elementary School, where I teach Music. He was always so pleasant to talk to. When he subbed for a class I knew that class would come to Music as they normally would; no goofy βwe have a subβ behavior. Robert would always light up when we discussed Music and the Arts in the regular Ed classroom. He was very passionate about doing what is right for students. I liked him and will miss seeing him.

My Daughter, Timberly said βMr.Leabo was the best substitute teacher ever! He always talked to us and would take the time to understand everyone. He went to our sport games and attended as many events as he could just to cheer students on.β She was very saddened to hear of Mr. Leaboβs death and she wants his family to know that βhe will truly be missed! β
