Thelma Oliver, 100, of Malone, NY., passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family and Hospice of the North Country.
Born in Carthage, NY. on January 16, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Alpheous and Frances Apple Clark. She graduated from West Carthage High School in 1939 and received a master’s degree in teaching from S.U.N.Y. Potsdam.
Thelma was a teacher and cheerleading coach in West Carthage and taught at Flanders Elementary School in Malone where she ended her teaching career after 29 years.
She attended First Baptist Church in Malone and the Lifeway Community Church in North Bangor, NY., was a member and past vice president of the Malone Golden Age Club, New York State United Teachers, Senior Citizens Bowling Club, and enjoyed quilting, square dancing and bridge. She also belonged to a local birthday group that she founded. She especially enjoyed her afternoon visits with her grandson Tanner, and attended all of his sporting events. Together, they shared a special bond.
On November 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to the late Robert Oliver in Carthage. The marriage ended in divorce.
Thelma is survived by her daughter Rose Oliver of Malone; her grandchildren Carrie King and her husband Chad of Malone, Adam Goring and his wife Andrea of Little Falls, New Jersey, Brandon Goring and his companion Courtney Sampica of Troy, NY. and Jefferey Robinson and his wife Alicia Kissane of Malone; and five great grandchildren; Tanner King, Clayton Goring, Caleb Goring, Ivy Robinson and Levi Robinson.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Robin Goring, her brothers Gerald and Harold Clark and a sister Hilda Graves.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lifeway Community Church, the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country or the Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiver Support Initiative at S.U.N.Y. Plattsburgh.
Services will be held in the spring with burial at Morningside Cemetery in Malone, NY.
