Obituary of Joan Edith LaPlante

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan E. Ashline LaPlante, 78, of Malone, New York announce her passing on Tuesday May 18, 2021, at home with her family by her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. For several years Joan fought a brave battle with cancer. She was born on November 26, 1942 in Malone to the late Harold and Leona Gonyea Ashline, the most loving parents ever. On July 4, 1964 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gerald R. (Jerry) LaPlante in St. John Bosco Church, by the late Rev. Pompei. Joan graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1961. Upon her graduation she was employed by the New York State Telephone Company for four years. For sixteen years she was a loving, thoughtful and caring babysitter for family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, and a son, Timothy LaPlante, of Malone. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Betty Ashline of Malone, Jon and Susan Ashline of Malone, Donald and Sheila Ashline of Malone, Mark and Joyce Ashline of Malone, Alan and Kate Ashline of Rainbow Lake, NY; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Carol Soulier of Malone, Barbara (Bill) Delarm, Sr. of North Bangor, Karen (Bob) Gravel of Malone, Donna Yurista of Highland, NY; in-laws Sharon and Donald Millsap of Ohio; Carol Spinner and wife, Susan LaFave, of Malone and several loving and caring nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Paul at birth, her brothers-in-law, Dolphus Soulier and Allen LaPlante; a sister-in-law, Shirley LaPlante, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arlington and Florence LaPlante and two nephews, William Delarm, Jr. and, Marine Corps Capt. Trevor Yurista who was killed in action in Afghanistan. Joan was a very devout Catholic and a member of St. Andre Bessette Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church, in Malone, NY, on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andre Bessette Roman Catholic Parish, St. Jude or the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. in Malone, NY.
