Obituary of Alfred D Almond

Alfred D. Almond, 83, of Fort Covington, N.Y. passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side along with Hospice of the North Country. Alfred was born on April 25, 1938 in Fort Covington to Jennings and Mary Boadway Almond. He attended Fort Covington High School. On July 4th, 1959, he was married to the former Theresa Lauzon at St. Mary’s of the Fort Church in Fort Covington, with Father Edmond Dumas presiding. She predeceased him on October 23, 2005. Alfred worked on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. He then went to work as a Lost Foam Technician at General Motors Power Train in Massena, N.Y. retiring in 1998 after twenty-nine and a half years of service. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Fort, a 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, was a founding member of North Franklin Sports and was a member of Local #465 UAW in Massena. Alfred loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed gatherings during holidays, loved visiting the camping crew, and riding his spider. He was a story teller and loved picking endlessly on those he loved. He enjoyed watching the grandkids play sports, and especially loved watching Joni figure skate and dance. He loved fishing and was an avid hunter always heading to the woods with Marcel, Mike and Tony. Alfred is survived by two sons and their spouses; Michael and Mary Almond of Brushton N.Y., Marcel and Penny Almond of Fort Covington, two daughters and a son-in-law; Michele Pelkey and her companion Michael Soulier of Burke, N.Y. and Mary Jo and Tony Willis of Fort Covington, and his brother William Almond of Constable, and a sister-in-law Buleah Almond. Alfred has seven grandchildren Sherry, kimberli, and John (Kateri) Wylie, Jessica (Jess) Venturini, Jocelyn (Bill) Black, Christopher Pelkey, and Joni Willis. Great grandchildren Carter, Dylan, Zackary, Cooper, Erik, Jace, and Westin, and many nieces and nephews. Alfred always had treats ready for his grand dog Memphis Belle. He always enjoyed visiting with his “adopted” great-grandchildren Kara, Kaden, Talynn, Eystn, Finley, Cecelia, Tyten and Jex and great-great grandsons Weston and Hudson during family times together. Along with his parents, wife, and a daughter-in-law Lisa Almond, he was predeceased by his brothers Franklin, Clayton and John, sisters Marie Ayers and Gertrude Phillips, sisters-in-law Beverly and Gloria. Calling hours will be held at Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral home in Fort Covington on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary’s of the Fort Church Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 at 11:00 A.M.
