Obituary of Jay A. Wiltz
Please share a memory of Jay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jay A. Wiltz, 65, of Malone, NY, passed away peacefully December 2, 2022.
Jay was born in Edina, Minnesota on March 7, 1957, the middle child of Dickinson and Carol Wiltz. He spent his entire childhood in Edina graduating from Edina High School in 1975. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth, then returned to Minneapolis where he began working for the US Postal Service. He married Terre Willett on February 6, 1982 while living in St. Louis Park, MN. It was there that they welcomed two children, a son and daughter. In 1986, Jay and Terre moved to Burlington, Vermont, where they welcomed their third child, another son. Jay continued his career as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Burlington. His favorite part of the job was befriending the people on his route and helping them when he could. Upon his retirement in 2016, Jay and Terre moved to Malone to be close to Terre’s family. They spent summers at their camp, canoeing and watching the loons, travelled to visit family in Florida and the Cayman Islands and enjoyed their retirement.
When Terre passed away in 2017, Jay chose to remain in Malone. In 2017, Jay met the second love of his life, Meg Sherwin. In their short time together, they travelled extensively, enjoying numerous trips to the Caribbean, Maine, and South Carolina. Jay treasured these adventures, and his time, with Meg.
Jay is survived by his three children, sons and daughter, Robert, Cassie and Drew; siblings Kathy, Jeff (Bridget), Sarah (Lee), and Paul; and partner, Margaret Sherwin. Jay loved his family and friends fiercely. He was a witty storyteller who could enter a roomful of strangers and be friends with all of them by the end of the day. Jay had a very giving heart–if a friend, family or even a stranger needed help, he was there. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Jay will be held at a later date to be announced.
