Obituary of Leona Dumas
~Leona Dumas, 94, of Malone, NY., passed away late Sunday night at The Alice Center, in Malone, NY. She had been a resident there since September 22, 2015.
Born in Brasher Falls, NY., August 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Santimaw White. She graduated from Massena High School in 1940.
On October 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to William I. Dumas, at St. Patrick’s Church, in Brasher Falls, NY. He predeceased her on March 23, 1979.
Leona was employed by F.W. Woolworth Co. for many years as a clerk and also in the office. She later worked in the office at the Malone Dairy, retiring in 1981.
She was a communicant of St. Andre Bessette Parish at Notre Dame Church, in Malone, NY. She was a past member of the Malone Women of the Moose and the Malone American Legion Auxiliary. She had served as President of the Tenant Council of Mill Street Apartments in Malone. Her hobbies included gardening, cross stitch and embroidery.
Survivors include three sons and four daughters in law, Nealon and Linda Dumas of Homosassa, FL., Timothy and Patricia Dumas of Victor, NY., Walter and Patricia Dumas of Woodbridge, VA., and Linda Dumas of Victor, NY., nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Richard and Lee Dumas, four brothers, Donald, Merton, Leo and Paul White, two sisters, Helena Savage and Bernice Shannon and two grandsons, Paul J. Dumas and William Dumas.
There are no calling hours. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, in Brasher Falls, NY.
Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
