Earl J. Lavoie of Malone, N.Y. passed on May 20, 2023. Earl was born in Malone, N.Y. in 1929, the eldest son of Ernest and Dorothy Lavoie. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1947 and from the University of Maryland in 1956 with a degree in financial management. He was married to Joan Clark in 1957 and had four children; Jeffrey, who passed in 1999, a daughter Tracey ( Bernard) Bruyere of Malone, sons Dana (Robyn) Lavoie of Fayetteville, N.Y., and Mark (Karen) Lavoie of Malone. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law Tracy Lavoie of Malone, his sisters; Dawn Labombard of Peru, N.Y., Susan Grytebust of Virginia, Janice (Robert) Sova of Malone and Janet Passino of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and by eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Along with his son, he was predeceased by his wife Joan and a brother; Darrel Lavoie. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War and three years in the Air Force Reserve. He was an active member of the Malone American Legion, serving as Post Commander, Franklin County Commander and Sargent-at-Arms of New York. He was also an active member of the Malone Veterans Firing Squad. He served the community in many different capacities; President of the Kiwanis Club, President and Secretary of the Malone Chamber of Commerce, President and Treasurer of the Malone Golf Club, President of the Malone Economic Development Corporation, Director of Malone Adult Center, Chair of Valley Ridge Senior Housing, Chair of the Advisory Board of First National Bank and Trust, Member of Malone Elk’s, Volunteer of the Internal Revenue Service VITA Program, Member of Malone Central School Board of Education and 2 years on Malone IDA. During his tenure as president of the golf club, he initiated the expansion of the golf course to a thirty six hole complex which became an economic attribute for Malone and vicinity. He was active in local politics for over fifty years, serving as Village Trustee for thirteen years, Town Supervisor for five years, twelve years as a County Legislator with four as Chair. He was a Democrat Committee Member for many years, serving as town and county Chair, and State Committeemen. Earl retired from the National Army Stores in 1991 as Vice President and CFO after thirty five years of service, during which he was a Director of the Council of Retail Merchants for New York State. Joint calling hours for both Earl and Joan will take place on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 10a.m.-noon at Notre Dame Church in Malone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon. Burial with military honors will take place in New St. Joseph’s Cemetery on the Childs Road in Malone following Mass. Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service in Malone is serving the family of Earl.
