Carl A Bashaw Sr., 86, of Chasm Falls, New York, passed away on October 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home.
Born in Owls Head, New York on October 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Levi and Clara Johnson Bashaw. He attended school in Owls Head.
On November 15, 1958, he was married to Karlyn E. Lamb at Notre Dame Church in Malone by Rev George Lemieux. She predeceased him on October 6, 2011, after 52 years of marriage.
He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation after 30 years of employment. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, gardening, and snowmobiling and continued cutting his own firewood right up until this past spring. He was always happy to lend a helping hand and spent years building trails in the woods for his family to enjoy and could often be found giving his grandchildren and great grandchildren rides on the ATVs and snow sleds. He was never happier than when all of his family was gathered together, and he especially looked forward to the weekly family brunches at his home after Sunday mass.
He is survived by three sons, Carl and his wife Vicky, Craig and his companion Lisa Cook, and Chris Bashaw all of Owls Head, daughter Cathie and husband TC Morton of Wassaic, NY, granddaughters Heather Bashaw and husband John Koerner of Buffalo, NY, Bethany and Chris Taylor of Moira, NY, Cailyn Bashaw and her companion Doug Geraghty of Stamford, CT, Leighann Bashaw of Plattsburgh, NY, Melissa Bashaw of Malone, NY, Sofie Morton of Wassaic, NY and grandson Nolan Morton of Wassaic, NY. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, Tyler, Raelynn, and Lillian Taylor of Moira, NY, Macen Bashaw of Owls Head, NY, and Anna and Grant Koerner of Buffalo, NY. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Betty Larche of Massena, NY and by brothers and sisters-in-law Nathalie Symonds, David and Nora Holmes, John and Renee Holmes, and Nellie Holmes.
Mr. Bashaw was predeceased by seven brothers, Gerald, Arley, Kenneth, Vernon, Lloyd, Donald, and Allen Bashaw as well as two sisters, Eileen and Carolyn Bashaw.
