Obituary of Dayton E. Tuper

Dayton E. Tuper, 92, of Fort Covington, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Alice Center in Malone, N.Y.
Born on October 9, 1931 in North Bangor, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ida LaPage Tuper.
On August 7, 1954, he was wed to the former Patricia Johnson at St. Mary’s of the Fort Church in Fort Covington with Father Lauzon officiating. She predeceased Dayton on May 18, 2009.
Dayton attended local school and then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Germany and France from 1950-1953. He then was employed as a Motor Equipment Operator at the Fort Covington Highway Department, retiring in 1994. He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s of the Fort Church, a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus in Fort Covington, a member of the Massena AMVETS Post #4 and a proud member of the Fort Covington American Legion, Post #1418, where he had served as commander.
He is survived by his sons: Edward (Stacy) Tuper of Omaha, Nebraska, Bruce (Linda) Tuper of Waterbury, CT., Ronald (Lisa) Tuper of Vulontown, CT., and Paul Tuper of Terryville, CT., his daughters: Bonnie Beaudin of Fort Covington, Nancy (Marty) Almond of Burke, N.Y., sons in law Howard Rockhill and Kenneth Rockhill, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother Clayton, daughters Maxine Rockhill and Karen Rockhill, daughter in law Laura Tuper, granddaughter Melissa Brand and son in law Donald Beaudin.
Calling Hours will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable, N.Y. on Tuesday, November 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bombay next to his beloved Patricia.
Donations may be made in Dayton’s memory to the Fort Covington American legion, Post # 1418 or the activities fund of the Alice Center.
