Obituary of Gertrude M. Rousell

Gertrude M. Rousell, 92, of Malone, passed away at her home on September 17, with her family by her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
Born on September 25, 1931 in Malone, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Tessie (Beach) Benware.
She was wed to the late Kenneth E. Rousell on June 10, 1950 at St. Helen’s Church in Chasm Falls with The Rev. O’Brian officiating. He predeceased her on September 19, 2015.
She was employed in the sewing dept. at Tru-Stitch, and also worked at Shumal Potato Farms and Warner Brothers.
Gertrude was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Church in Malone, and enjoyed playing cards and bingo, camping, gardening, bird watching, doing puzzles and puzzle books, visiting the casinos and shrines, traveling to see family and spending time with her grandkids.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Sheila) Rousell of Brushton, James Rousell of Malone, Thomas Rousell of Malone, Scott (Lisa) Rousell of Brushton, Rodney (Tiffany) Rousell of Malone; daughters, Judy Stevens of Brandon, Mary Savage and her companion Robin Guerin of Westville, Carolyn (Steve) Poirier of Burke, Janice (Scott) Santamore of Malone; a brother Allen Benware of Lake Titus; her sisters, Theresa Mallette of Malone, Bertha Griffin of Syracuse, Evelyn Vanier of Malone, Linda (John) Hanna of Malone; as well as thirty five grandchildren, forty six great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
Along with her husband Kenneth, she was predeceased by her brother, Carl Benware; sisters, Stella O’Connor and Virginia Shantie; her grandson, Alexander Savage; and two great granddaughters, Abigail and Adrianna Patterson.
Calling hours will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24th at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Notre Dame Church in Malone Wednesday, September 25th at noon. Burial will follow at New St. Joseph’s Cemetery on the Child Road in Malone.
