Obituary of James G. Rhoades

James G. Rhoades, 67, of Duane, NY., passed away Sunday afternoon, January 29, 2017, at C.V.P.H., in Plattsburgh, NY., with his loving family by his side. He had been a patient there since January 24.
Born in Malone, NY., October 1, 1949, he was the son of the late James J. and Mildred B. Gravell Rhoades. He graduated from Salmon River Central School in Fort Covington, in 1967, and from Canton A.T.C., in Canton, NY., in 1972.
On June 25, 1976, he was united in marriage to Rose A. Trippany, at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington, NY. She predeceased him on March 13, 2014.
In 1968, Jim’s mother Mildred Rhoades founded Rhoades Accounting and Jim joined his mother in 1972. He was also a dispatcher for Franklin County Emergency Services, in Malone, for more than thirty years. He served as the Fort Covington Town Justice for many years.
He was a member of the Fort Covington Masons, Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, an Honorary Member of the Duane Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and 3rd Degree member of the Fort Covington Knights of Columbus. He was also a long time member of the Trout Brook Hunting Club.
He enjoyed playing cards, carpentry, hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, racing dirt track for more than twelve years, building his 1933 Ford Vicky from the ground up and spending time with his family and many many friends. His most cherished moments were spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include one son and daughter in law, Leonard and Donna Bowen of Fort Covington, NY., five daughters and three sons in law, Diane Stanford of Valleyfield, Que., Gladys and Andre LeBlanc of St. Anicet, Que., Joyce Tessier of Valleyfield, Que., Betty and Steve Rockhill of Moira, NY., and Judith and Jay Brockway of Fort Covington, NY., fifteen grandchildren, Anne, Eddie, Tammy, Linda, David, Dani, John, David, Luc, Carole, Michelle, James, Wendy, Jay, Jr., and Joshua, many great and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by one granddaughter, Donna.
Calling hours will be this summer, Monday, June 12, 2017, from 10 a.m. until noon, at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, in the church, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Ladd Cemetery, in Duane, NY., with full fireman’s honors
Donations may be made in his memory to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. or to the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department of your choice.
