I am sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. I know this post is a few months after her passing. Please forgive me as I am just learning about her passing. Elaine and my grandmother Patricia Cartier worked together for many years at Leroux Oil Company in town, and this is how I first met Elaine. I was about 9 or 10 and even though she was much older than me, it was an instant friendship. I recall walking from my grandmothers house on several occasions when we were up visiting family, and I always made it a point to say hello to Elaine, my grandmother, Phil and Marty. My grandmother Patricia Cartier and Elaine knew each other for several years, and I am great fun to have crossed paths with Elaine as she was a wonderful lady. Even after I got married and moved out of New York to Virginia and then to Florida she always kept in touch with me. We sent Christmas cards to one another every year, and if I went back home to visit family and the trip involved going up to Fort I made sure to stop in. I will forever cherish the stories we shared, the visits when I was young to go visit her and my grandmother at work, and walking over to her house to just say hi- hello turned into a few hours visit most times and we just talked, catching up on where we left off. Elaine was like a grandmother to me. She always gave me good advice and was always excited when I’d tell her something new that happened, she “took me under her wing” the minute I met her. We often shared stories that made us laugh until we cried. She loved to bake and make things for others. She loved her dog Sandy and loved feeding the animals that she found in her yard. I will miss her, but will remember what she taught me. Sending my condolences to Elaine’s family and friends.
A longtime friend,
